Multimedia has reform the education system for its multi sensory capability to catch attention and cultivate learner participation
in order to increase their concentration and understanding. Due to the rapid development
of current science and technology, the use of multimedia approach must be
expand
into broaden field of education which covered right form preschool
level. Hence, this paperwill discuss about the development of an interactive
pre-school multimedia courseware based on storytelling approach.
The courseware is developed as associate introduction to
science for educational institution youngsters to extend their interest in
learning science at early age. This is essential since the intensive
intellectual development is one ofthe level criteria ofpreschool children [1]. By
victimization associate interactive multimedia system courseware with
storytelling approach,
learning method become additional exciting to the kids
and therefore the information might be delivered and acknowledged easier.
Interactive multimedia has the potential to revolutionize
the way we work, learn and communicate [2]. Studies have shown that
computer-based multimedia can help students learn more effectively than
traditional classroom method [3]. [4] defined multimedia as a manipulation and
integration of various media such as data, text, graphic, image, video and
sound in a digital environment. According to [5], multimedia is an integration
of different types of media: texts, numeric, graphics, images, video, animation
and sound in a digital environment which has the interactivity ability to
enable users to retrieve their information needs non sequentially. Multimedia
is highly effective, as indicated by
the Computer Technology Research report;
student retain only 20% ofwhat they see, 30°0 ofwhat they hear but 50° ofwhat
they see and hear and as much as 80% of what they see, hear and do
simultaneously [6]. Therefore, the advantage of multimedia interactive
environment should be integrated in all level of education including preschool
education level. 3. Storytelling Approach Storytelling approach is constantly
used in Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) and Computer Assisted Learning (CAL)
tool. The used of storytelling approach fascinating student to know about
history, religious, good moral value and other subject, which would entertain
and encourage them with indirect learning style [7]. According to [8],
storytelling will encourage our hearing art and children to try or read by
themselves. But, regardless of the audience, a good story has the ability to
change both the teller and the listener [9]. The used of multimedia element
produce an interesting storytelling technique in attracting student interest to
understand the content ofthe story. It promise dynamic and interesting
presentation for student because multimedia is able to digitally visualize an
impossible in the reality life.
